The star of Malta: Rachel Portelli is ready for the crown

1) First of all, welcome to Miss Europe Continental! You’re officially one of the next Misses. Can you tell me something about yourself? Your name, where are you from and which country will you represent.

My name is Rachel Portelli, and I proudly represent the enchanting island of Gozo—one of the jewels of the Maltese archipelago. As a passionate advocate for children and a strong believer in using one’s voice for good, I am honoured to stand on this stage representing the warmth, resilience, and vibrant spirit of the Maltese Islands – MALTA.

2) If you should describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Three words describing myself ì:
Resilient, compassionate, and driven.

I describe myself as resilient because I’ve turned challenges into opportunities, from overcoming a sports injury to discovering my passion for modeling. Compassionate, because my heart is dedicated to helping children who face hardship. And driven, because whether it’s in my studies, career, or advocacy work, I give everything my full dedication and purpose.

3) What do you do in your life?

I am an ACCA student and an accounts officer, currently pursuing my master’s degree in accounting. Beyond my professional path, I’m also a passionate model and advocate for children facing social, financial, or health-related challenges. I dedicate my time to voluntary work that brings joy and support to those in need, as I strongly believe in using my voice and abilities to make a positive impact.

4) You’ve had experience in pageantry before. Can you tell us about your very first pageant? What do you remember most about it?

Yes, I do have experience in pageantry. My very first pageant was a defining moment for me. I still remember the excitement, the nerves, and the overwhelming support from my community in Gozo. What stood out the most was how empowered I felt stepping on stage, not just showcasing beauty, but sharing my voice, my values, and my story. At that moment I realized pageantry is much more than a competition; it’s a platform for purpose, and that’s what inspired me to continue in this industry.

5) Aside from winning the crown, what personal goals are you hoping to achieve through Miss Europe Continental?

Aside from winning the crown, my personal goal through Miss Europe Continental is to grow as an international ambassador, someone who uses her voice to inspire, uplift, and advocate for those who are often unheard. I hope to create greater awareness for children facing hardship and show that beauty and purpose can walk hand in hand. This experience is also a chance for me to embrace new cultures, build meaningful connections, and represent Malta and Gozo with pride, grace, and authenticity.

6) How did your parents or friends react to this new experience? Do they support you?

My mum is my number one supporter in everything I decide to do. While this isn’t my first beauty pageant, it is my very first on such a grand international scale. The encouragement from my mum and friends has become one of my greatest sources of strength. They stand behind me with pride, reminding me every day that I’m never walking this journey alone.

7) Can you tell us something about the sponsor who will support you during the event?

I’m proud to be sponsored by J. Portelli Projects, a leading real estate development company in Malta and Gozo, founded by self-made entrepreneur Joseph Portelli. What began as modest investment grew into a visionary enterprise through his bold decisions, innovative mindset, and strong leadership. Today, J. Portelli Projects is known for its high-quality developments and a team of dedicated professionals who prioritize both client satisfaction and community impact. One of their most iconic projects, Mercury Towers, was designed in collaboration with the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects and stands as a symbol of modern progress in Malta. I’m truly inspired to have the support of a sponsor who represents ambition, excellence, and forward-thinking values.

8) What do you hope people remember about you after Miss Europe Continental?

I hope people remember me as the girl from Gozo who carried the warmth of her island, the strength of her values, and the heart of her mission wherever she went. Beyond the stage, I want to be remembered as someone who used this opportunity to give a voice to children who often go unheard — those facing challenges in health, education, and social acceptance. My goal was never just the crown, but to shine a light on causes that truly matter. If people remember me for my compassion, resilience, and commitment to making even the smallest difference in someone’s life, then I’ve achieved something far more meaningful.

9) Do you have a secret dream? If you could make one wish, come true, what would it be?

I would wish for every child no matter where they’re born or what they’re facing, to have the chance to dream freely and live with dignity because when you empower a child, you don’t just change their future, you begin to change the world.

10) Do you have a personal motto? Or a quote that you like and represents you.

“Be the light that reaches those still searching for hope.”
This reminds me why I do what I do, to use whatever platform I have to uplift others, especially children who feel unseen or unheard. Even the smallest light can guide someone out of darkness.

11) How do you see yourself in ten years?

In ten years, I see myself continuing to grow both personally and professionally, using the experiences and platform I have gained to make a lasting impact. I hope to be leading initiatives that support children and communities like mine in Gozo creating opportunities, improving education, and spreading hope. I also see myself as a strong, confident woman who never forgets her roots and uses her voice to inspire others to believe in their own power to change the world.

12) Lastly, what would you say to young women who dream of one day standing on the same stage?

To every young woman dreaming of this stage: Carry your confidence like a crown, even before you wear one. Be resilient, let every setback fuel your strength and growth. And remember, you are never alone in this journey. Embrace the sisterhood around you lift others as you rise. Together, we are unstoppable. Believe in yourself, trust the process, and know that your light will shine brighter than you imagine.
